Overview
There are many causes of dementia other than the most common which are Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.
Dementia is also found in younger adults, termed Early Onset Dementia; and is associated with a large number of neurological conditions such as Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, hydrocephalus, MS, prion diseases, alcohol-related dementia, traumatic encephalopathy and a number of infectious diseases such as HIV.
Diagnosis is based on thorough assessment and investigation with management and treatment, if possible, depending on the underlying cause of the dementia.
